Be part of a company shaping the future of infrastructure across North America. We are seeking an Automation Engineer who is ready to apply technical expertise to meaningful industrial projects while growing within a forward-looking organization.
Position Overview
The Automation Engineer oversees the design, configuration, programming, testing, startup, and ongoing support of plant control systems. This role leverages process control technology to enhance operational performance, including throughput, uptime, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and reliability metrics such as MTBF.
In addition, this position supports cross-functional teams—including operations, maintenance, environmental compliance, quality, and logistics—by ensuring the control system delivers accurate data and reliable functionality.
A $5,000 sign-on incentive is available for this role.
Key Responsibilities Maintain and administer process control hardware, software platforms, and associated technical documentation within control and server environments. Troubleshoot and support plant electrical infrastructure and automation-related issues. Program and maintain PLC-based systems (including platforms such as ControlLogix, PLC-5, and SLC 500). Apply knowledge of instrumentation, motor controls, starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and industrial communication networks (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet). Minimize production interruptions by proactively identifying system vulnerabilities and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications (e.g., Rockwell ControlLogix, FactoryTalk View SE), PlantPAx systems, and virtualized network environments. Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment, ensuring seamless integration with existing plant systems. Generate and manage system data for operational, environmental, and compliance reporting. Establish and maintain technical standards for system modifications and expansions. Update and manage engineering drawings and system documentation. Identify automation and control enhancements to extend equipment lifecycle and improve efficiency. Collaborate with electrical leadership and process engineering teams to evaluate and optimize plant performance. Promote and uphold a strong culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Experience 1–3 years of relevant experience in industrial automation or process control environments. Technical Skills Experience with enterprise systems such as SAP. Proficiency in AutoCAD, VMWare environments, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong knowledge of PLC programming, instrumentation systems, and industrial controls. Additional Attributes Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities. Commitment to adhering to all safety requirements and proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators when applicable (must meet fit-test standards).
