E2E Functional Test Lead
Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our staffing practice has an opening for a Senior Functional Test Lead (End-to-End Testing) for one of our top Canadian banking clients. This role supports large-scale Credit Card and Payments initiatives and requires a strong technical background with proven experience leading complex E2E functional testing across multiple integrated systems.

Role: E2E Functional Test Lead (Functional Testing – Not a UAT Lead role)
Contract: 1 year (strong possibility of extension)
Location: Hybrid – Downtown Toronto (on-site every Tuesday)
The E2E Functional Test Lead will be responsible for leading end-to-end testing across multiple applications, especially within the Credit Cards and Payments ecosystem.
This role is an End-to-End Test Lead responsible for coordinating and executing testing across multiple retail & commercial banking applications. This team does not own any applications; success depends on ability to lead testing across 10+ upstream/mid-tier/downstream systems.
This role is not a UAT Lead position. It focuses on hands-on functional testing leadership, working across multiple systems to ensure robust E2E coverage.
End-to-End Functional Test Leadership
Hands on experience to solve test environment and data gap Strong tech background and experience to identify E2E testing scope based on solution architecture Lead E2E testing across multi-application integration landscapes (10+ systems). Coordinate with multiple application QA teams (onboarding, mobile/online banking, APIs, downstream systems). Understand and validate data flow end-to-end across channels (front end → API → mid-tier → downstream). Create test plans, test cases, scenarios, data sets, and defect documentation using ALM/Confluence. Conduct testing across credit card functions including onboarding, adjudication, settlements, tokenization, credit limit increases, and TSYS integrations. Work closely with business stakeholders and solution architects to validate requirements, review architecture diagrams, and ensure test coverage. Support production-like test data creation and batch process testing.
Test Planning & Execution
Own the end-to-end test execution for designated programs. Develop and maintain E2E test scenarios, flows, and documentation. Perform functional test execution as needed (hands-on role). Ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality test results and reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with system owners, BAs, developers, and QA teams across multiple groups. Explain project flows, integrations, and data movement at a high level. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Provide clear communication around issues, defects, risks, and progress.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
Provide root cause analysis for defects and recommend corrective actions. Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to enhancements in test processes. Review control and issue closure testing to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Strong technical background with experience navigating complex system environments in a Retail & Commercial Banking (P&BB).
5+ years of End-to-End Test Lead: leading cross-functional testing without direct reports. Hands on experience to solve test environment and data gap Strong tech background and experience to identify E2E testing scope based on solution architecture End-to-end testing across multiple integrated systems Payments and Credit Cards domain experience (must-have) Handling environment gaps and test data gaps Ability to explain system interactions and tell a clear “project story” Experience with multi-application integration testing (10+ systems). Strong understanding of application + data workflows.
Excellent knowledge of SDLC (Agile & Waterfall). Strong communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills. Experience with manual testing tools (HP ALM, JIRA). Strong SQL skills and experience validating data across systems. Solid understanding of banking applications, especially card lifecycle and transaction flows.
Nice-to-Have
Exposure to API testing or automation (API automation is NTH only). Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines.
