Role & seniority: Field Testing Specialist (mid-level)
Stack/tools: Agricultural equipment (irrigation, tractors, field cultivators, planters, sprayers, forklifts, combines); field research software; Microsoft Office; data collection/record-keeping systems
Plan, execute, and manage day-to-day field research for corn, soybean, sorghum, and wheat, ensuring data quality and protocol adherence
Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain field equipment; coordinate with vendors to have equipment ready for the season
Collaborate with experiment managers to summarize results, identify issues, and plan weekly workflow; maintain safety and documentation
Associate or bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related science; 2–4 years experience (agribusiness, agronomy, plant breeding, farming-related)
Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
Safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of handling large data sets
Technologically adept with standard software; physically able to lift 50 lbs; outdoor work readiness; valid driver’s license (CDL/CMV eligibility)

As a Field Testing Specialist, you will plan and execute the safe and efficient day-to-day management of corn, soybean, sorghum, and wheat product development at the Garden City Research Center. You will be involved in all phases of planting, growing, phenotyping, and harvesting research materials to meet pre-commercial product advancement and data quality goals. You will adopt and implement evolving technologies and methodologies that enhance and improve product development.

Education: Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in agriculture or scientific field with 2-4 years. Experience in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, farming-related or a scientific-related field
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people
Results Driven: Self-motivated and able to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem-solving. Detail-oriented, strong time management and organizational skills
Safety Oriented: Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices
Technologically Savvy: Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and capacity to learn new technologies and software. Handling of large volumes of data will be required
Physical Requirements: Will be required to do physical lifting and work outdoors and in varying ergonomic environments. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds. Additional hours and weekends during seasonal peak periods, including some overnight stays. Driver’s License, acceptable driving record, and ability to obtain CMV and/or CDL Ability to obtain appropriate pesticide applicator license/certification.
Strong Agronomy Background: Ability to scout crops and make recommendations based on findings.
Strong Farming Practices: Knowledge of general farming practices. Ability to operate agricultural equipment and be able to move between different pieces of equipment throughout the season.
Mechanical Ability: General knowledge to be able to diagnose and solve most mechanical failures while in season and during off-season maintenance.
