Location & work type
Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people's lives more fulfilling.
About The Role
We're looking for a Staff Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with 8+ years of experience to join our team in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this hybrid role, you will be a key leader in ensuring the quality and reliability of our robotic systems. You'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our automation framework from the ground up, with a primary focus on robot software. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in software development, a strong understanding of robotics, and a passion for quality and system integration.
About The Work
Lead the architecture and technical roadmap for our robot software automation framework, and champion best practices in automation across the engineering team. Design, develop, and deploy automated tests that validate critical robotic functionalities, including locomotion, perception, and control systems. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, and systems integration etc) to understand new features and product requirements and to define comprehensive test strategies. Conduct in-depth root cause analysis for complex defects and provide detailed insights to the development team to drive quick resolutions. Mentor and guide junior SDETs and software engineers on automation principles and tooling.
About You
7-10 years of experience in software development or test automation, with at least one year in a technical leadership or staff-level role. Proven expertise in designing and implementing robust automation frameworks from scratch. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java. Solid understanding of core robotics concepts such as ROS/ROS2, SLAM, sensor fusion, and control systems. Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and interacting with physical robotic systems. Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and integrating automated tests into the build process. Exceptional problem-solving skills and a meticulous approach to quality. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineers and stakeholders.
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with cloud automation, containerization (Docker), or orchestration (Kubernetes). Knowledge of system integration and end-to-end testing for complex hardware/software systems. Experience with different test frameworks and tools (e.g., Pytest, Selenium, Robot Framework).
