A lot of AI testing still gets talked about as if the job is to ask the model a few questions and check whether the answers look sensible. That is a useful start, but it is not enough. AI products can pass a demo, pass a small regression set, and still change in subtle ways once prompts, retrieval data, model versions, user behavior, or production context changes.

That is where testers matter. Behavior drift is not always a clean failure. It can look like a support agent becoming slightly more confident than it should be, a resume helper giving advice that no longer matches the role, or a search assistant interpreting the same user intent differently from one week to the next. These are the kinds of issues that need judgment, context, and a good sense of what “right” looked like before.

The useful testing skill is not just “can you use AI tools?” It is “can you define the expected behavior clearly, notice when the product moves away from it, and explain the risk in a way the team can act on?” That is a strong lane for QA, SDET, and quality engineers as more teams ship AI features into real workflows.

If you are applying for roles around AI products, automation, or quality engineering, make that visible. Show examples of risk thinking, prompt or data validation, production monitoring, edge-case discovery, and evidence-based bug reporting. Those signals can be stronger than simply listing another tool name.
