Hi there,

An AI assistant says, “Your support ticket has been created.”

The wording looks right. But was a ticket created? In the correct account? With the right details? And did a retry create a second one?

On 18 September, Anthropic announced an embedded evaluation partnership with Accenture. The proposed approach gives evaluators access to development processes and decisions, with operating details still being worked out.

That raises a useful question for everyday testing: what evidence do we need beyond the final answer?

This week, pick one AI-assisted workflow in a test environment and try these five checks:

1. Define success before running it. For ticket creation, specify the correct account, required fields, and exactly one new ticket. Give the test something concrete to measure.

2. Check the information it used. Inspect available retrieval records and tool responses. Did the assistant use the right customer record and current information? Open any cited sources and check whether they support its claims.

3. Verify the actual outcome. Compare the final answer with application records and tool logs. A statement that something happened is a claim to verify.

4. Introduce one controlled failure. Make the ticket service unavailable or return a permission error. Does the assistant accurately report the failure, ask for help, or claim success anyway?

5. Keep enough evidence to investigate. Record the input, model and prompt versions where available, tool activity, final answer, and resulting application state. Use test data and redact sensitive values.

If you’re building your testing portfolio: document one mismatch between what the assistant said and what actually happened. Include the expected result, observed result, and supporting evidence.

If you lead testing or automation: score answer quality and action correctness separately. When evidence is unavailable, record that limitation rather than treating an unverified outcome as a pass.

A final answer can tell you whether the response was useful. Assessing the whole workflow also means checking the actions and results behind it.
