Role & seniority: Staff Automation Engineer (Senior individual contributor)
Stack/tools: Electrical engineering, controls technology, automation, robotics; PLC programming; motor and motion control; safety standards; machine networking/communications; risk-based design and standard code structures
Assess failure mechanisms for entire machines and electrical/mechanical processes
Establish standards for electrical prints and lead electrical development/integration
Lead automation projects, perform root-cause analysis, mentor engineers, and implement scalable solutions
Must-have skills: Bachelor’s in a STEM field (Master’s/PhD preferred); 8+ years (Bachelor’s) / 6+ years (Master’s) / 4+ years (PhD) hands-on experience in electrical engineering, controls, automation, robotics, and project management; strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and project leadership

Key Responsibilities
Assess Failure Mechanisms: Evaluate the failure mechanisms of entire machines and electrical and mechanical processes.
Establish Standards: Set standards for electrical prints and act as an authority in electrical development and component integration.
Root Cause Analysis: Uncover root causes and implement balanced solutions. Advocate for risk-based decision making and demonstrate strong business insights.
Leadership: Provide leadership in automation technology projects and the industrialization of new technologies.
Technical Excellence
Project Leadership: Guide project teams to ensure the successful implementation of advanced engineering solutions. Showcase proficiency in electrical and controls engineering, solving sophisticated controls, PLC programming, and engineering obstacles.
Component Selection: Resolve equivalent components for equipment that can no longer be purchased.
Motor and Motion Control Development: Select and enhance motors and motion control systems for machine construction.
Risk Minimization: Set up standard code structures and guide program development to minimize risks.
Project Implementation: Develop multiple systems or machines, mentor other engineers, and lead program creation.
Safety Standards: Detail how the team will meet safety requirements in projects.
Automation and Invention: Lead the invention and construction of manufacturing lines with automation. Specialize in machine network connectivity and communications to establish expertise within the team.
Multi-Functional Teamwork: Work multi-functionally to establish systems used by multiple sites.
Technology Integration: Collaborate to efficiently introduce new technology into the manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Education required: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM field Master’s, or PhD in a STEM-related field preferred 8+ years (Bachelor’s), 6+ years (Master’s)4+ years (PhD) of hands-on experience in electrical engineering, controls technology, automation, robotics, and project management. Robust problem-solving and statistical analysis skills. Outstanding communication, collaboration, and project leadership abilities.
