The Automation Engineer is a hands-on, hybrid technical role designed to ensure seamless delivery and resilience across Boldr's application and data platforms. You serve as the critical technical link between strategic process blueprints (developed by the operational excellence lead) and production code. Your dual mandate is to execute automation solutions while maintaining sufficient cross-training in Data Engineering and the product team/our developers to provide essential coverage for the Lead Data Engineer during periods of absence. WHY DO WE WANT YOU

We want someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution, with the ability to translate business challenges into robust technical and operational architectures. You’re a seasoned professional who can balance hands-on solution design with influencing executive stakeholders and ensuring long-term scalability.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

  1. Automation Execution & Development (Primary Focus)

Solution Implementation: Translate 'To-Be' process blueprints and functional requirements (developed by the operational excellence lead) into deployable technical solutions, prioritizing security and reliability.

Platform Development: Build, test, and maintain low-code applications (e.g., Appsmith, internal tools) and automation workflows (e.g.,n8n, custom scripting) that directly address the bottlenecks identified in business processes.

Integration Specialist: Ensure secure and reliable data flow and connectivity between various platforms using APIs and custom scripts.

Code Review: Conduct internal code reviews for automation scripts and Appsmith changes before deployment.

  1. Cross-Functional Resilience & Coverage (Secondary Focus)

Data Pipeline Coverage: Provide essential Tier 1/Tier 2 support for the Data Engineering function. This includes monitoring production ETLs (Airflow DAGs), performing first-line troubleshooting, checking logs, and safely executing restart procedures when the Lead Data Engineer is unavailable.

Software Support: Provide development support to the Product/Solution team during periods of slow workflow automation demand, focusing on internal application maintenance, bug fixes, and feature enhancements.

Data Flow & Quality: Maintain a solid grasp of data flow mechanisms, validation techniques, and ETL concepts to ensure that data consumed by the automation layer is accurate and reliable. WHAT WE’LL LIKE ABOUT YOU YOU ARE… Curious and authentic, just like us! #beboldr

Versatile: You thrive in a dynamic, hybrid environment, easily shifting focus between solving a deployment bug and troubleshooting a data pipeline failure.

Detail-Oriented: Focused on delivering clean code and accurate data, understanding the necessity of meticulous logging and testing.

Resilient: Willing to quickly learn and step into critical functions (like ETL monitoring) to ensure business continuity during team absences.

Collaborative: Excellent at communicating technical constraints and solutions clearly to non-technical stakeholders and the Data Engineering Lead. YOU HAVE… A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Software Development: 3+ years of hands-on experience in modern software development, specifically using languages like Python (for scripting/data handling) and/or JavaScript/Node.js (for application/integration logic).

Automation Execution: Proven experience executing and maintaining workflows on automation platforms (e.g. n8n, Zapier, Make, etc.).

Data Engineering Fundamentals: Strong foundational knowledge of data flow concepts, relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), and basic SQL proficiency. Experience with ETL/ELT concepts is required.

Cloud Platform Exposure: Practical experience using core services in cloud environments (AWS, GCP) for deployment, logging, and monitoring purposes.

Tooling Experience: Direct experience working with/integrating HRIS, ATS, or CRM tools (e.g. BambooHR, Rippling, Zendesk, Hubspot). Availability to align with Eastern Time Zone
