WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career.

The Role

The Video Hardware Block Verification Engineer develops and executes verification plans specifically for video hardware components (such as video decode, encode, and video processing). You will work on HW block testbench verification for one or more HW block designs, either as an owner, or within a small verification group.

In this role, you will validate that their video HW blocks and related interfaces function correctly, are robust, operate reliably under stressful scenarios, and meet power & performance requirements. You may work closely with design teams to identify and fix issues. You will be highly accurate and detail-oriented, possess good communication and problem-solving skills, and be able to execute effectively within a team.

The Person

You will be involved in all aspects of the verification process from test planning, group test review, testbench development, test writing & test/HW debug, verification closure & functional coverage signoff to system verification.

You will be involved in defining verification strategies for your blocks. You will help ensure the timely delivery of high-quality, verified hardware products to SoC projects at AMD.

Key Responsiblities

Develop & execute comprehensive verification plans and testbenches for video hardware blocks such as video encoders/decoders (H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1, JPEG), and image signal processors as part of a block team. Create tests & run simulations to verify HW block behaves as expected. Use hardware description languages (SystemVerilog, Formal) and verification methodologies (UVM, Formal, and others) to build test environments & testbenches tailored for compression & decompression of video content (raw video & bitstreams respectively). Collaborate with design, other verification teams, firmware and software teams to debug issues related to video hardware testbenches. Ensure designs meet industry video standards and compliance requirements. Document verification plans, test results, and coverage reports. Leverage AI tools & methodologies to enhance the verification process including automating verification tasks and verification tool development for video hardware. Stay current on verification techniques & emerging video technologies.

Preferred Experience

Practical hands-on work experience with formal verification would be an asset. Practical C++ experience would be an asset to review & update hardware behavioural models. Experience with FPGA prototyping or emulation -- to apply to video decode/encode/processing hardware verification Strong knowledge of industry standard video compression & decompression standards and low-level compression concepts. Multiple years of hands-on work experience developing block verification testbenches, developing test plans for a HW design, executing test verification of such HW, defining functional coverage, and delivering 100% functionally covered validated HW design. Hands-on proven verification experience using languages such as SystemVerilog & UVM, and debugging simulation waveforms to root cause differences between test bench and hardware designs. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Familiarity with video codec algorithms (H.264, HEVC, AV1, VP9, and JPEG).

Academic Credentials

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields such as Computer Science + minimum 7-10 years related experience
